Bye Bye Carle - watsonnostaw
Grossmann resiging has no effect on what's happening with Carle. I believe that Carle wanting to test Free Agency was decided long before this signing. |

So we'll have Cobourn, Grossmann, Timonen, Meszaros.. Add in that Bourdon kid and add a #6 off the scrap heap with Gustaffson as the Call up and I see how that might work.
I'd like to resign Carle, but it doesn't seem critical. |

Great signing. Was really hoping they brought Grossmann back.
Lilja is also signed through next year so rotate him with Gus, MAB, etc. Also wouldn't be surprised to see the Flyers pick up another inexpensive veteran like they did with Lilja if Carle is gone.
I think there's still a chance Carle is resigned, but only if it's a foregone conclusion in the summer that Pronger won't play, and only if it's for about the money Pronger is being paid. It seems Carle is looking at over $5 million a year from some team, so it's most likely he is gone. |

Love this signing. Grossman has been great for us and at 27 years old he is still growing and learning. I love knowing we will have a big bruising d-man back there for the next 4 seasons!
I really hope Carle is gone after this year. He has had a horrible season and is so soft. I would prefer to sign Kubina to an extension than keep Carle. Wonder what it would take... Kubina did say he would like to finish his career hee when he signed here but who knows.
Funny how time hates how Homer is so secretive. Only a reporter would give two craps about that. FANS love it. |

He leads the team in blocked shots. Not what I would call soft. Haters just trot out the same tired criticisms. |

When you are on the back end you have to have some kind of physical game to you, he has absolutely none. He shy's away from contact and when his offensive game isn't in tact he becomes a below average player and at times a liability. |

Carle expressed a willingness to talk contract w/ Homer long ago, but Homer doesn't seem all that willing to lock him up. We know that Homer likes to get things done well in advance when it comes to locking players up that he highly values (Richards, Carter, Giroux, JvR, Coburn, Grossmann) and he's not shy about doling out fair market value or above to make those contracts happen. With Carle, you get the sense that Homer's going to let it run to the last minute, throw him a half-hearted offer before letting him walk. He's just doesn't seem that committed to him. |

weird blog
only actual quotes i have seen from grossmann on the matter were that he was probably going to wait until after the season to talk contract
do you have any quotes from him regarding waiting to see how they did in the playoffs? |

Carle is the Flyers' Wade Redden. He's steady as they go both ways for 98% of the time... but the fans will never forget/forgive him for how spectacularly he can fail in limited instances. |

Does this mean Carle is out the door? no...but it does mean that further cap-onomics will need to be applied...if there is a CBA to apply them too.
One big change that really should be put in is a provision protecting teams from being locked in to contracts because of injury (Pronger, Rathje). Players whose careers are ended because of injury should not count against the cap. But that is MHO. |

Using that logic, one may also think that Carle and/or his rep(s) are asking for a lot and Homer is more comfortable letting him test the waters and coming back OR would rather pay the extra mil or so for Suter than 5.5 for Carle or whatever.
But this summer is going to be really tricky. Cap ceiling could be in the low 70s but once the new CBA is agreed to, could be back in the high 50s. Really difficult summer to navigate for a GM. |

Neither you nor I have no idea why a deal hasn't been done. Holmgren has said repeatedly that he wants Carle back. It's a two way street. I don't get the sense that you get at all. If anything I get the sense that Carle wants to test Free Agency. And it's been his choice not to resign. If you want to speculate that it means that Holmgren really doesn't want Carle back, that's your choice. But there is no factual basis for that.

I disagree. Carle's spectacular failures that you have repeatedly referenced are very, very rare. No differently from any other defenseman. Your not speaking for this fan with that statement. |

That is simply not true. If it was he wouldn't be leading all Flyers in icetime. Carle does not at any point shy away from contact. That is completely innacurate. When is his offensive game not in tact?
I keep reading fantasy about Carle. It's really a shame that a quality player doesn't get the respect he deserves from some. Especially when the facts are simply ignored.
